Russian Lighthouses Around St. Petersburg

Shepelevsky Lighthouse

The Shepelevsky Lighthouse is located on the Gulf of Finland not far from St. Petersburg. The 40 meter cast iron tower was manufactured in France and erected here in 1910. It's not automated and is manned by two very hospitable keepers and their families who live on the site in rather spacious quarters by Russian standards. The senior keeper on the site is a bona fide Russian Hero, and holds a certificate to prove it, for his exploits during World War II as a fighter aircraft ferry pilot.
