Lindenes Fry (Lighthouse) is located on the southwest coast of Norway. A light has been shown at this location since 1655 as depicted in these drawings. The earliest light was a wood fire in a large, vented metal basket In 1799 a stone building was constructed with the fire basket on top. The site, atop a cliff at the edge of the North Sea is subject to continuous high winds, These winds were put to good use in the lighthouse constructed in 1822 which was built at the highest point on the cliff. Large openings in the base funneled the winds to feed the fire now enclosed in a windowed room atop the structure. The ruins of the base remain today. The present lighthouse, built in 1915, is shown in the lower right.
The drawings were made by the present lighthouse keeper who is an artist and maintains a gallery near the lighthouse.
